RC Romine writes opinion pieces with keen observations about life, society, and economic issues worth reading.
The Darwin Awards
“Commemorating those individuals who ensure the long-term survival of our species by removing themselves from the gene pool in a sublimely idiotic fashion. … [The author] started collecting the stories that make up the Darwin Awards in 1993” Wendy Northcutt had the imagination and good sense to start the Darwin Awards some years ago, and she’s now compiled the best ones into a book.  (From an online review of “The Darwin Awards”)

About Richard C. Romine

Romine is an author and business professional with a BS degree from the University of South Florida in political science and a minor in history. He has experience leading several startup companies and manages his own national marketing company specializing in construction materials with a target market of national hotel chains and contracting firms.

Romine has authored several books and has been writing on economic and business issues since the cataclysm of the 2008 Great Recession.

The Foundations Codex and The Foundations Chronicles were written with the realization that the next generation will have to deal with the folly of this current downturn, that we have ceded our democracy, the Founder’s gifts of government for and, “by the people,” to a small group of that some call the Billionaires Cons.

The Foundations Codex chronicles the first six years of a national cooperative, designed to return the value of people, create jobs and return democracy. Through the only real agent of change, economics.

The Foundations Chronicles tell the tale of the time of the Cons Takeover and the death of billions, all for those that would be God.

Both books were written as a blueprint for those that come after us to give them hope.

The irony is so thick, you can taste it. That the simple act of washing your hands and wearing a mask becomes the new Darwin Awards. How many times have I been in a public restroom in an airport or elsewhere, and seen people go to the bathroom and leave without washing their hands? How many times! So it’s really not hard to see why so many would fight wearing a mask, even just to go into a store.
Isn’t protecting your fellow Americans patriotic? Protecting Americans is why we serve in the military, right? But wearing a mask to do just this minimal service is considered a communist plot to take away your rights? Protecting Americans, remember?
So how does this qualify for The Darwin Awards 2? How is it that showing their ugly faces is more important than protecting Americans, as the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines do? The commander-in-chief demonized the pandemic as “the Democrats New Hoax!” but now that he has contracted the virus, maybe it’s not a hoax. Nearly 210,000 Americans have found that out the hard way. The act of cramming together thousands of supporters, now fellow patients, who don’t have access to the amazing healthcare he has, has to rank up there with the guy and the rocket car from the movie, “The Darwin Awards”. He just doesn’t get the thrill of proving Darwin was right at 200 miles an hour.
Maybe Trump will have a “Come to Jesus” moment, but I doubt it. Regardless, this is a realization all of us should have. Destroying our democracy and the health of our nation in one of the greatest Darwin Awards moments in history is just plain stupid! The social Darwinists, reveling at the course of this pandemic should not wonder for whom the bell tolls, because it can toll for them just as easily as it can for those they despise. As Donald Trump has found out, politics will always lose to reality and being willfully stupid in the face of a virus, which eats Republicans just as quickly as Democrats, is a true Darwin Award.
